Why buy this R1 South Africa 2020 1 oz Silver Krugerrand?

Collectors waited for half a century for silver counterparts to the iconic Gold Krugerrand. They finally got what they wanted in 2017 when the South African Mint issued Premium Uncirculated Silver Krugerrands for the first time. The following year, the mint released the first ever bullion version of the Silver Krugerrand. This coin is part of the third issue in that young tradition. It was struck from 1 oz of .999 fine silver.

Striking Springbok Design by Coert Steynberg

Both faces of the Silver Krugerrand take their designs from the gold version of the coin. On the obverse is a left-side portrait of one of the most consequential politicians in the history of South Africa, Paul Kruger. Kruger was the third President of the South African Republic and is a controversial figure in the country's history to this day. He is shown here with a long beard in a design by Otto Schultz. Joining him are inscriptions of the name of the issuing country in Afrikaans, "SUID-AFRIKA," and English, "SOUTH AFRICA."

The reverse bears a right-side view of South Africa's national animal, a springbok antelope. South Africa's national sports teams are nicknamed "the Springboks" after the creature. Coert Steynberg shows it bounding across the issuing country's plains with its head turned to offer the holder a clear look at its face and horns. The coin's date, "2020," is split, with two digits to the left and two digits to the right of the design. Its name, "KRUGERRAND," is inscribed on the top portion of the rim. The bottom portion of the rim bears inscriptions of the coin's weight in Afrikaans and English. Together, they read, "FYNSILWER 1 OZ FINE SILVER." Along with them is an inscription of the coin's face value, "R1."

Impeccable MS70 First Day of Production with Black Core Holder and Tumi Signature Label

It was also certified First Day of Production due to documentation that was submitted to NGC with it guaranteeing that it was struck on that day. This information comes on a label that has been hand signed by the Managing Director of the South African Mint, Tumi Tsehlo. The coin comes set in a black core holder.
