Why buy this 1 oz Silver 2020 Sh100 Somalia Elephant?
For more than two decades, the Silver Elephant Series has provided collectors with the opportunity to get up close with the world's largest land animal. The series features an exquisite new design every year, which makes the coins highly collectible. Coins from each new issue are considered "must haves" among many collectors. This piece was struck from 1 oz of .9999 fine silver at the Bavarian State Mint.
Striking Two Elephants Design
The Somali coat of arms dominates the obverse. Two leopards support a shield on which there is a single star. Below, a ribbon wraps around crossed lances. Behind the lances are two palm fronds. The date, "2020," is split, with the first two digits to the left of the arms and the last two to the right. Rim inscriptions note the name of the issuing country, "SOMALI REPUBLIC," and the coin's face value, "100 SHILLINGS."
Two African elephants face each other on the obverse. One has long tusks, the other short. They are executed in fine detail. Africa's most famous mountain, Mount Kilimanjaro, rises in the distance. The image is encircled by a rim frame on which there are three sets of inscriptions, "AFRICAN WILDLIFE," "ELEPHANT," and "1 OZ AG 999.9."
