Why order this 2020 $5 Solomon Islands 50 g Silver Convex Mayflower Plateau Proof?
In 1620, a small group of English Puritans left their homeland in search of a place where they could create their own community with their own rules. They sailed to the New World and landed at Plymouth Rock, becoming some of the earliest settlers to begin building lives in the New World. Now, the Solomon Islands are marking the 400th anniversary of their journey with this convex Mayflower Plateau, which celebrates the ship on which they sailed. Part of a mintage of 2,020 pieces, the coin was struck from 50 g of .999 fine silver. It will arrive in GEM Proof condition.
Colorful Mayflower Design
The obverse features Ian Rank-Broadley's right-side portrait of Queen Elizabeth II at the center. The monarch dons a tiara at the center of a small circle. The rim of that circle bears several inscriptions. They include her name, "ELIZABETH II," the name of the issuing country, "SOLOMON ISLANDS," the coin's face value, "5 DOLLARS," the date, "2020," and the coin's weight, "50 G," and purity, "AG 999." Surrounding that circle is a map that includes the Americas, Africa, and most of Europe. It shows the journey of the Pilgrims and includes the inscription "PILGRIM QUARCENTENARY."
The reverse also has a circle in the middle. It includes inscriptions of the name of the ship, "THE MAYFLOWER," which is in cursive, the occasion for which the coin was issued, "400TH ANNIVERSARY," and the anniversary dates, "1620-2020." Around the circle are a compass, a colorized view of the famous Mayflower at sea, and several Pilgrims in silver.
