Why order this 2020-S American Silver Eagle Proof from the San Francisco Mint?
This 2020-S Proof Silver Eagle would make a perfect standalone piece or addition to a Silver Eagle collection. This is partly due to the significance of its date and partly due to the significance of its mint mark. 2020 has been a pivotal year for countless reasons in the United States, not the least of which is the Western wildfires. This coin was struck at the San Francisco Mint, not far from some of those fires.
Featuring Two Patriotic Designs by Numismatic Legends
Obverse: The obverse design comes from Adolph Weinman's Walking Liberty half dollar. The allegorical figure strides confidently bearing laurel and oak branches, symbols of civilian and military honors, respectively, as the sun rises. "LIBERTY," "IN GOD WE TRUST," and "2020" are all inscribed on this face. Besides the Walking Liberty half dollar, Adolph Weinman is also famous for designing the Mercury dime. Weinman was also a prolific sculptor, whose work can be seen to this day in various American cities.
Reverse: The reverse design was created by John Mercanti, who used the Great Seal of the United States as his model. An eagle spreads its wings while protecting a union shield under thirteen stars. This image is encircled by three rim inscriptions, which read, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," and "ONE DOLLAR." John Mercanti is the most prolific designer in the history of the US Mint. He also served as the twelfth Chief Engraver of the mint.
