Why purchase this San Francisco Mint 2020-S American Silver Eagle?
This 2020-S Silver Eagle Proof is a perfect memento for 2020. The coin is part of a rich tradition that began in 1986 and comes in what may be one of the most globally significant year since the series began. Struck with the San Francisco Mint's "S" mint mark, this coin is particularly significant since it comes from the facility closest to the wildfires that have devastated the American West.
Featuring Patriotic Designs by A Pair of Numismatic Legends
Obverse: The obverse design was taken from Adolph Weinman's Walking Liberty half dollar. Draped in the American flag, Liberty carries branches, which represent civilian and military honors, as the sun emerges from beyond the horizon. Obverse inscriptions include the figure's name, "LIBERTY," the date, "2020," and the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST." Adolph Weinman played a major role in the renaissance of American coinage in the early 20th century. His work includes the Walking Liberty half dollar and the Mercury dime. He was also a prominent sculptor, whose work can be seen to this day in cities across America, including New York, Washington, DC, and San Francisco.
Reverse: The reverse design was modeled off of the Great Seal of the United States by John Mercanti. An eagle protects a union shield below an arrangement of thirteen stars. Rim inscriptions note the name of the issuing country, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," the coin's weight, "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," and its face value, "ONE DOLLAR." John Mercanti was the twelfth Chief Engraver of the US Mint. He has designed more coins and medals than anyone else in American history.
