Featuring a Pair of Patriotic Designs by Two Numismatic Legends
Obverse: The coin's obverse design was created by Adolph Weinman and first appeared on the Walking Liberty half dollar. Against a backdrop of a sunrise, Liberty carries branches that represent honors bestowed upon civilians and members of the military. Her name, "LIBERTY," joins the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST," and the date, "2020," among the obverse inscriptions. Adolph Weinman is most famous for the Walking Liberty half dollar and Mercury dime. He also sculpted works that appear in prominent locations throughout the United States.
Reverse: Thirteen stars are arranged in a triangular formation above an eagle, which guards a union shield, on the reverse. John Mercanti created the design, modelling it off of the Great Seal of the United States. The design is encircled by three rim inscriptions, which read, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," and "ONE DOLLAR." John Mercanti created more coin and medal designs than anyone else in the history of the US Mint. He also served as the facility's twelfth Chief Engraver.
