Why purchase this 2020-S San Francisco Silver American Eagle?

The Proof Silver Eagle Series continues with this thirty-fifth edition. 2020 may be one of the most consequential year in world history since the series began, and this issue from the San Francisco Mint is a fantastic memento. This piece is particularly significant given its source mint's close proximity to some of the wildfires that wreaked havoc on Western states.

  • This is the last time a San Francisco Proof Silver Eagle will bear the coin's original design.
  • The U.S. Mint has applied a product limit of 200,000 and the release is currently unavailable there.
  • The US government recognizes this piece as $1 legal tender.
  • This coin was struck at the San Francisco Mint and bears an "S" mint mark.
  • The coin was struck from 1 oz of .999 fine silver.
  • Designs from Adolph Weinman and John Mercanti feature on this piece.
  • Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) graded this coin Proof 70.
  • NGC certified this piece First Day of Issue and Ultra Cameo.
  • NGC provided grading information on a label that features a picture of President Donald Trump.

Featuring a Pair of Patriotic Designs by Two Numismatic Legends

Obverse: The coin's obverse design was created by Adolph Weinman and first appeared on the Walking Liberty half dollar. Against a backdrop of a sunrise, Liberty carries branches that represent honors bestowed upon civilians and members of the military. Her name, "LIBERTY," joins the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST," and the date, "2020," among the obverse inscriptions. Adolph Weinman is most famous for the Walking Liberty half dollar and Mercury dime. He also sculpted works that appear in prominent locations throughout the United States.

Reverse: Thirteen stars are arranged in a triangular formation above an eagle, which guards a union shield, on the reverse. John Mercanti created the design, modelling it off of the Great Seal of the United States. The design is encircled by three rim inscriptions, which read, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," and "ONE DOLLAR." John Mercanti created more coin and medal designs than anyone else in the history of the US Mint. He also served as the facility's twelfth Chief Engraver.

Flawless PF70 UC FDI with Trump Label

This coin earned Numismatic Guaranty Corporation's (NGC's) highest grade, Proof 70, which is given exclusively to coins that appear perfect under 5x magnification. It was also certified Ultra Cameo due to its sharp contrasts between heavily frosted devices and deeply mirrored fields. NGC also certified this coin First Day of Issue, a designation that means that this piece was submitted for grading through an exclusive process. Grading information comes provided on a label that features an image of President Donald Trump.
