Why purchase this 2020-S American Silver Eagle Proof from the San Francisco Mint?
Collectors who love the American Silver Eagle should not miss their chance to order this 2020-S Proof. The coin was struck near some of the wildfires that have devastated California and other states. Of course, the wildfires are just one of many events that make 2020 particularly noteworthy and this coin an important keepsake for those who lived through this year.
Patriotic Designs by Adolph Weinman and John Mercanti
Obverse: The coin's obverse features Adolph Weinman's Walking Liberty, which originally appeared on the half dollar. Liberty wears a Phrygian cap and is draped in the American flag as she carries branches against a backdrop of the morning sun. Her name, "LIBERTY," joins the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST," and the date, "2020," among the inscriptions on this face. Adolph Weinman designed two of the most famous coins in American history: the Walking Liberty half dollar and the Mercury dime. He also created several sculptures, many of which are on display in cities throughout the United States.
Reverse: John Mercanti modeled his reverse design off of the Great Seal of the United States. At the center is a union shield, which is guarded by an eagle. Thirteen stars represent the original states above. Rim inscriptions note the name of the issuing country, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," the weight of the coin, "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," and the coin's face value, "ONE DOLLAR." John Mercanti served as the US Mint's twelfth Chief Engraver. During his time with the institution, he designed more coins and medals than anyone else in its history.
