Why purchase this 2020-(S) MS70 1 oz American Silver Eagle Struck at the San Francisco Mint?
To keep up with increased customer demand as a result of production delays related to the Covid-19 pandemic, the United States Mint authorized a run of 2020 bullion American Silver Eagles to be struck at the San Francisco Mint. This certified coin is part of that production run. While bullion Silver Eagles do not carry a mint mark, Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC), has certified that this particular coin was struck at the San Francisco Mint and that it qualifies for the grading companies "Emergency Production" pedigree.
Featuring Patriotic Designs by John Mercanti and Adolph Weinman
Obverse: The coins obverse design comes from Adolph Weinman's Walking Liberty half dollar. Liberty is the picture of patriotism as she carries laurel and oak branches as the sun rises to the left. "LIBERTY" is among three rim inscriptions. It is joined by the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST," and the date, "2020." Adolph Weinman was one of the most important contributors to the rebirth of American coinage in the early 1900's. He is best known for the Walking Liberty half dollar and the Mercury dime.
Reverse: John Mercanti created the reverse design using the Great Seal of the United States as his model. Thirteen five-pointed stars represent the original states at the top, while an eagle protects a union shield below. "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" arches over the design, while "1 OZ. FINE SILVER" and "ONE DOLLAR" are inscribed on the bottom half of the rim. John Mercanti spent more than three and a half decades at the US Mint, including time as its Chief Engraver. Over that time, he contributed designs to more coins and medals than any other American in history.
