Why order this San Francisco Mint 2020-(S) 1 oz American Silver Eagle?
2020 marks an interesting year in world history to say the least. This 2020 American Silver Eagle is part of a production of bullion Silver Eagles that were stuck at the San Francisco Mint to help off-set both increased delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic and to keep up with collector demand. While this coin does not bear a mint mark, Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) certified that this coin was struck at the San Francisco Mint and gave it an "Emergency Production," pedigree.
Featuring Iconic Designs by American Numismatic Legends
Obverse: Adolph Weinman's Walking Liberty design, which appeared on the half dollar from 1916-1947, features on the obverse. Liberty strides confidently to the left side of this face with branches in her left arm as the sun emerges from beyond the horizon. Her name, "LIBERTY," is among three inscriptions on the obverse. It is joined by the date, "2020," and the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST.' Adolph Weinman made major contributions to America's early 20th century numismatic renaissance. His best known works were the Mercury dime and the Walking Liberty half dollar. Many of his sculptures are displayed prominently in American cities.
Reverse: The Great Seal of the United States was John Mercanti's model for his reverse design. A union shield is protected by an eagle under a triangular arrangement of thirteen stars. Rim inscriptions provide essential information about the coin, including its country, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," weight, "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," and face value, "ONE DOLLAR." John Mercanti was the twelfth Chief Engraver of the United States Mint. He held the post for part of his 37 years with the institution. Nobody in American history has designed more coins and medals than he has.
