Exquisite Patriotic Designs by John Mercanti and Adolph Weinman
Obverse: The obverse design comes from the Walking Liberty half dollar, which was designed by Adolph Weinman. The morning sun emerges from beyond the horizon as Liberty carries branches of laurel, which represent civilian honors, and oak, which represent military ones. Inscriptions on this face read, "LIBERTY," "IN GOD WE TRUST," and "2020." Adolph Weinman was a prominent sculptor whose work remains on display in many American cities. His best known numismatic contributions were the Walking Liberty half dollar and the Mercury dime.
Reverse: John Mercanti's reverse design, which he modeled off of the Great Seal of the United States, features thirteen five-pointed stars and an eagle protecting a union shield. Three rim inscriptions together encircle the image. They read, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," and "ONE DOLLAR." John Mercanti was the twelfth Chief Engraver of the United States Mint. He held the post for just part of his 37 years with the institution, during which time he created more coin and medal designs than anyone else in American history.
