Featuring Iconic Designs by John Mercanti and Adolph Weinman
Obverse: The coin's obverse design comes from the Walking Liberty half dollar of Adolph Weinman. Bearing branches of laurel and oak, an American flag-draped Liberty strides confidently to the left side of this face against a backdrop of the rising sun. Obverse inscriptions note her name, "LIBERTY," the date, "2020," and the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST." Adolph Weinman was among the leading contributors to the early 20th century renaissance of American numismatics. His most significant numismatic works were the Mercury dime and the Walking Liberty half dollar.
Reverse: The Great Seal of the United States served as the model for John Mercanti's reverse design. An eagle protects a union shield while holding arrows and an olive branch under an arrangement of thirteen stars. This design is encircled by the inscriptions, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," and "ONE DOLLAR." John Mercanti holds the record for the most coins and medals designed by anyone in the history of the US Mint. His nearly four decade tenure included time as the institution's twelfth Chief Engraver.
