Why order this 2020-(S) San Francisco Mint 1 oz American Silver Eagle?
The United States Mint authorized a production run of bullion American Silver Eagles to be struck at the San Francisco Branch Mint in 2020 to keep up with customer demand and to off-set production delays that arose from the current pandemic. Although it lacks a mint mark, this coin was certified as having been struck at the San Francisco Mint by Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC), who also gave it their Emergency Production pedigree.
Patriotic Designs by Adolph Weinman and John Mercanti
Obverse: The obverse design features an American flag-draped Liberty carrying laurel and oak branches against a backdrop of the rising sun. It originally appeared on Adolph Weinman's Walking Liberty half dollar. Inscriptions include "LIBERTY," "IN GOD WE TRUST," and "2020." Adolph Weinman designed two of the most important coins in America's early 20th century numismatic renaissance, the Walking Liberty half dollar and the Mercury dime. He also sculpted numerous works that remain on display in cities throughout the United States.
Reverse: On the reverse, an eagle guards a union shield while holding arrows, symbols of military readiness, and an olive branch, a symbol of peace, under thirteen stars. John Mercanti created the design specifically for this series, modelling it off of the Great Seal of the United States. Rim inscriptions note the coin's country, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," weight, "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," and face value, "ONE DOLLAR." John Mercanti spent 37 years with the US Mint, with part of that time spent as its Chief Engraver. Over the course of his long career, he contributed designs to more coins and medals than anyone else in American history.
