Why order this 2020-P 100th Anniversary of Women's Suffrage Commemorative Silver Dollar BU?
The passage of the 19th Amendment was one of the most important events in American history. It included women in one of the most important aspects of civil rights and civic responsibility. Now, the US Mint marks the centennial anniversary of this important event with this silver dollar uncirculated coin. Part of a shared mintage of 400,000 pieces, this coin was struck from 26.73 g of .900 fine silver. It bears the "P" mint mark of the Philadelphia Mint. This piece is an Ultra Cameo, which means that its deeply mirrored fields and heavily frosted devices contrast particularly sharply.
Striking Suffragettes Design
The coin's obverse depicts three women wearing hats that were popular in different decades of the women's suffrage movement. The woman on the bottom is wearing a cloche hat that bears an art deco pattern and a button with "1920," the year of ratification, on it. The coin's face value, "$1," is inscribed in the upper left, while "LIBERTY" and "E PLURIBUS UNUM" are inscribed along the rim.
On the reverse, there is a ballot box with art deco elements that represent the styles of the era of ratification. The box bears the inscription "VOTES FOR WOMEN" on a circle on the front. Other inscriptions on the box read, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "IN GOD WE TRUST." The anniversary date, "2020," is being dropped into the box.
