This 2020 dated release of the U.S. Mint's America the Beautiful quarters series honors Salt River Bay National Historical Park and Ecological Preserve, which is located on the island of St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Gorgeous Mangrove Tree Imagery
Obverse: The likeness of George Washington created by John Flanagan in 1932 adorns the obverse. Inscribed "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "LIBERTY," "IN GOD WE TRUST," "QUARTER DOLLAR" and Philadelphia's "P" Mint mark. Mr. Flanagan is credited with multiple medal designs and sculptures, including the Rotunda Clock at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C.
Reverse: The reverse depicts a segment of the Salt River Bay, with a young mangrove tree sprouting from its salted depths. Inscriptions include "SALT RIVER BAY," "U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS," "2020" and "E PLURIBUS UNUM." The design credited to U.S. Mint Artistic Infusion Program artist Richard Masters, was sculpted by Joseph Menna, who was appointed the Mint's 14th Chief Engraver in February 2019.
