Why purchase this 2020-P America the Beautiful Salt River Bay 5 oz. Silver Specimen Coin?
The U.S Mint launched the America the Beautiful quarters series in 2010, focusing each release on a national park or historic site in each of the U.S. states and territories. This example is an homage to the Salt River Bay National Historical Park and Ecological Preserve located in the U.S Virgin Islands.
Impressively Detailed Design
Obverse: A portrait of George Washington is centered on the obverse. "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "LIBERTY," "IN GOD WE TRUST," Philadelphia's "P" Mint mark and "QUARTER DOLLAR" are inscribed. The image was created in 1932 by John Flanagan, a prolific medallic artist of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Reverse: The reverse features a blooming young mangrove tree, growing in the Salt River Bay. Inscribed "SALT RIVER BAY," "U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS," "2020" and "E PLURIBUS UNUM." The image was designed by Richard Masters (a member of the Mint's Artistic Infusion Program since 2004) and sculpted by Joseph Menna (the Mint's Chief Engraver since February 2019).
