Obverse: John Flanagan's left-side portrait of President George Washington features on the obverse. Flanking the portrait are a pair of inscriptions, "LIBERTY" and "IN GOD WE TRUST." The name of the issuing country, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," and the coin's face value, "QUARTER DOLLAR," are also included on this face.

Reverse: A young girl plants a Norway spruce seedling in Donna Weaver's reverse design, which was sculpted by Michael Gaudioso. "LAND STEWARDSHIP" is inscribed at the bottom. A rim frame encircling the image bears four inscriptions, including "MARSH-BILLINGS-ROCKEFELLER" and "VERMONT."

A specimen coin has some characteristics of business strikes and some characteristics of proofs. 70 indicates that the coin appears perfect as seen under 5x magnification. This information comes on a label that was hand signed by former U.S. Mint Chief Engraver John Mercanti.
