Why purchase this 2 oz Gold 2020-P $200 Australia Double Pixiu Forbidden City Imperial Lion High Relief Proof?
Few symbols in Chinese culture have as much reach as the famous Imperial Lion. Since ancient times, these Guardian Lions have represented happiness, luck, and wealth. Many government buildings, hotels, and other facilities, especially but not only in Asia, have these creatures in stone form at their entrances. Now, Perth Mint celebrates this powerful beasts with this very low mintage Gold Double Pixiu. Featuring the lions from the Forbidden City, this coin was struck from 2 oz of .9999 fine gold at the Perth Mint. It bears that mint's famous "P" mint mark, which is recognized throughout the world as a sign of outstanding quality. Just 250 of these coins were struck.
Striking Imperial Lions Design by Ing Ing Jong
A right-side portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Jody Clark serves as the obverse design. The monarch faces right with her shoulders open to the holder. She dons earrings, a necklace, and her Royal Diamond Diadem. She is encircled by a rim frame in which there are several inscriptions. Her name, "ELIZABETH II," and the name of the issuing country, "AUSTRALIA," are on the top half of the rim frame. On the bottom half are inscriptions that note the coin's weight and purity, "2 OZ 9999 AU," date, "2020," and face value, "200 DOLLARS."
On the reverse are two imperial lions sitting near each other. They almost face each other but are at slight angles. The male lion grasps an orb, which represents global supremacy. The female restrains a cub, a representation of nurture and protection against evil spirits. The two creatures represent the symbiotic yin/yang relationship.
