Why buy this $1 Australia 2020-P 1 oz Silver Wedge-Tailed Eagle?
John Mercanti and the Perth Mint made history in 2014 when they came together for the Silver Wedge-Tailed Eagle Series. That marked the first time that a US Mint engraver had ever designed a coin for a foreign mint. Now in its seventh year, the series continues to be extremely popular among collectors. Part of a mintage of just 50,000 pieces, this coin was struck from 1 oz of .9999 fine silver at the Perth Mint. That mint is represented on the reverse by its famous "P" mint mark.
Powerful Wedge-Tailed Eagle Design by John Mercanti
One of Jody Clark's portraits of Queen Elizabeth II features on the obverse. Clark is a designer for the British Royal Mint. He shows the monarch with her shoulders open to the holder and her Royal Diamond Diadem on her head. She also dons earrings and a necklace. Her image is encircled by a rim frame on which inscriptions offer her name, "ELIZABETH II," the name of the issuing country, "AUSTRALIA," and the coin's face value, "1 DOLLAR."
On the reverse is a new wedge-tailed eagle design by John Mercanti. The bird stretches its talons out as it prepares to land. Its spread wings provide the balance it needs on its approach. The closeup look at the bird provides exceptional detail. Along the rim frame are inscriptions that provide the name of the coin, "AUSTRALIAN WEDGE-TAILED EAGLE," its date, "2020," and its weight and purity, "1 OZ 9999 SILVER."
Virtually Flawless MS69 FR with Australian Flag Core and Mercanti Signed Flag Label
The experts at Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) awarded this coin their second highest grade, Mint State 69, and certified it First Releases. To receive a MS69 grade, a coin must appear perfect to the unaided eye. First Releases indicates that the coin was submitted for grading no more than 30 days after its initial release from the mint. The coin comes set in an Australian flag core, and its grading information comes provided on a label that features the Australian flag. That label was hand signed by John Mercanti.
