Why purchase this $1 Australia 2020-P 1 oz Silver Koala?
The Perth Mint's Silver Koala Series enters its fourteenth year with this 2020 piece. The series has grown in popularity over the past decade-plus thanks to its stunning one-year only designs and its adorable featured animal. This coin is part of a mintage of 300,000 pieces. It was struck from 1 oz of .9999 fine silver at the Perth Mint and bears that mint's famous "P" mint mark on the reverse. It remains in GEM Brilliant Uncirculated condition, just as it was when it was first struck.
Exquisite Koala Design by Ing Ing Jong
Jody Clark designed the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II that dominates the obverse. The monarch is shown facing right with her shoulders open to the holder. She wears earrings and a necklace, as well as her Royal Diamond Diadem. Her effigy is encircled by a rim frame in which there are inscriptions of her name, "ELIZABETH II," the name of the coin's country, "AUSTRALIA," and its face value, "1 DOLLAR."
The reverse bears a new koala design by Ing Ing Jong. A koala holds onto the top of a tree branch. It has its head off to the side, giving it the chance to look directly at the holder and giving the holder a better view of its face and its furry ears. A rim frame encircles the image and has several inscriptions. "AUSTRALIAN KOALA" is inscribed at the top. The coin's date, "2020, weight, "1 OZ," and purity, "9999 SILVER," are inscribed at the bottom.
