Why buy this $1 Australia 2020-P 1 oz Silver Kangaroo?
The Perth Mint has a reputation for excellence throughout the world. One major reason for that reputation is the outstanding quality of its bullion coins. In 2016, its famous Kookaburras and Koalas were joined by a new silver issue, the Kangaroo. The 2016 Silver Kangaroo was the first ever .9999 fine silver bullion coin from the Perth Mint, though the purity of its older coins soon increased to match it. Now entering its fifth year, the series continues to be a popular new choice among collectors. This piece was struck from 1 oz of silver and bears the "P" mint mark of the Perth Mint.
Stunning Red Kangaroo Design by Stuart Devlin
The reverse bears a right-side portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Royal Mint designer Jody Clark. Clark's image includes the monarch's shoulders. He shows the Queen wearing earrings and her Royal Diamond Diadem, which the traditionally wears to Great Britain's annual State Opening of Parliament. Her name, "ELIZABETH II," joins the name of the issuing country, "AUSTRALIA," and the coin's face value, "1 DOLLAR," on a rim frame.
On the reverse is Stuart Devlin's red kangaroo design. The image shows the fascinating animal in full bound, thus offering a clear look at its powerful legs. The background, which was not Devlin's work, is a stylized sunburst. Along the rim is a patterned frame in which there are inscriptions. The name of the coin, "AUSTRALIAN KANGAROO," is at the top. The date, "2020," and the coin's weight and purity, "1 OZ 9999 SILVER," are at the bottom.
