The Perth Mint launched its series dedicated to the Australian Emu in 2018, and has quickly grown to be a popular choice among collectors. Similar to other Perth Mint series such as the Kookaburra and Koala, reverse designs for the Emu series are annually changed, depicting the flightless bird in varied outback landscapes. This third release of the series, 2020-P Australian Emu bullion coin measures 40.90 mm in diameter, struck from 1 Troy oz. of .999 fine silver. Mintage is limited to 30,000.

The reverse captures a scene in a grass covered region of the Australian outback, as a pair of emus enjoy its tranquility, one lounging beside a small pond, while the other stands nearby. The inscription "AUSTRALIAN EMU" stretches above the image, with "2020 1 OZ 9999 SILVER" curving below and the Perth Mint's "P" located at the horizon.
The obverse, right facing portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was created by The Royal Mint sculptor Jody Clark. A wide frame surrounding the effigy bears the inscriptions "ELIZABETH II," "AUSTRALIA" and "1 DOLLAR."
