Iconic Silver Eagle Design
Obverse: Lady Liberty is portrayed on the obverse strolling towards the sunrise, gracefully welcoming the new day with her outstretched arm, while draped in an American flag. Inscribed "LIBERTY," "2020" and "IN GOD WE TRUST." This timeless rendition of Liberty made its first appearance on the 1916 Walking Liberty Half Dollar crafted by Adolph A. Weinman, an acclaimed medallic sculptor of the early 20th century.
Reverse: The reverse design by John Mercanti, featuring a heraldic eagle grasping an olive branch and arrows, is the Type-1 graphic, which was struck on all Silver Eagles released from 1986 until mid-2021. Inscribed "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," "ONE DOLLAR" and "E PLURIBUS UNUM." Mr. Mercanti is currently retired from his 2006-2010 tenure as the 12th U.S. Mint Chief Engraver.
