Stunning White Lion of Mortimer Design by Jody Clark
On the obverse is a right-side portrait of Queen Elizabeth II wearing her Royal Diamond Diadem and earrings. The monarch traditionally wears that crown to the State Opening of Parliament. The image was designed by Jody Clark. Rim inscriptions offer the monarch's name and abbreviated Latin title, "ELIZABETH II D G REG F D" (Elizabeth II, by the Grace of God, Queen, Defender of the Faith), and the coin's face value, "25 POUNDS."
On the reverse is Clark's White Lion of Mortimer design. The king of beasts swings its long tail while belting out a loud roar. It balances a shield with one of its front paws. The shield bears the white rose of York with the rays of the sun. Edward IV considered this a favorable sign in battle and adopted it as his own. The creature's name, "WHITE LION OF MORTIMER," is inscribed on a rim frame. It is joined there by other inscriptions, which read, "1/4 OZ FINE GOLD 999.9" and "2010."
