Why purchase this 2020 1 oz. Gold Britannia bullion coin?
The modern Gold Britannia series has been annually issued by The Royal Mint since 1987.
Elegant Britannia Design
Obverse: A portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II appears on the obverse, framed by an intricate guilloche pattern containing the inscription "ELIZABETH II, D.G. REG. F.D., 100 POUNDS." The image is credited to sculptor Jody Clark, the first employee of The Royal Mint to create a monarch coinage effigy in more than a century.
Reverse: Britannia stands in a protective pose on the reverse, as she guards the shores of Great Britain during a powerful gale. The young woman is portrayed wearing a Corinthian style helmet, while armed with a trident, shield and olive branch. Inscriptions include "BRITANNIA," "2020" and "1 oz 999.9 FINE GOLD." This rendition of Britannia was created by Philip Nathan for the inaugural 1987 release of the series. Mr. Nathan is an acclaimed British sculptor who was employed by The Royal Mint from 1965-1968.
