Why purchase this 2020 Tortoise 1 oz. antiqued silver ultra high relief coin?
This charming Tortoise coin is a replication of the stater minted by the ancient Greek city-state of Aegina. Introduced circa 700 BC, the Aeginetic Stater holds a place in history as one of the first forms of circulating currency. The 2020 dated Tortoise coin was designed by CIT and produced by the Mayer Mint using smartminting technology. Containing 1 Troy oz. of .999 fine silver, the ultra high relief coin features an antiqued finish and an uneven edge to emulate the original ancient coin. Mintage is limited to just 999 coins.
Fantastic Tortoise Design with an Antiqued Finish
The reverse features an amazingly sculptural representation of a tortoise, with its legs extended and head bent as if curious about its surroundings. The creature is flanked by the inscriptions "C" and "I" (Cook Islands).
The obverse depicts sculptor Ian Rank-Broadley's crowned, right facing effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The portrait is encircled by the inscriptions "ELIZABETH II," "5 DOLLARS," "COOK ISLANDS" and "2020."
