Why purchase this 8 g Gold 2020 ¥100 China Panda?
This 8 g Gold Panda continues a rich tradition that dates back to 1982. Since then, the series has featured stunning one year only designs, with one exception, that have brought the symbol of the world's largest nation to the world. The series broke new ground in 2016 when the China Mint began issuing it in metric units instead of imperial ones. This 8 g piece is the successor to the quarter ounce size. It was struck from .999 fine gold.
Heart Warming Baby Panda Design by Song Lina
As is tradition, the Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests, which is part of the Temple of Heaven in Beijing, features on the obverse. Stairs lead up to the platform on which the structure sits. The building is a stunning example of classical Chinese architecture. It is circular and has three tiers that lead up to a concentric point. The name of the issuing country, "People's Republic of China," is inscribed in Chinese characters at the top of a rim frame, while the date, "2020," is included at the bottom.
This year's reverse design was created by a native of northern China, Song Lina. Song has been a student of pandas for years. She shows a baby panda sitting on the ground enjoying a meal of bamboo leaves. It feeds itself with its left front paw while reaching up to grab more leaves from the tree above with its right front paw. The coin's face value is inscribed to the left of the panda, while its weight and purity, "8 G AU .999," are inscribed in the upper right along the rim.
