Why purchase this 2020 ¥200 China 15 g Gold Panda?
Chinese Gold Pandas are among the most highly anticipated releases among collectors around the world year in and year out. Not only are the coins issued by an emerging global power, but they also feature stunning one year only designs (with one exception). This 15 g piece is the second largest of the coins. It is the successor to the half ounce version, which was struck until the China Mint converted to the metric system in 2016. Part of a mintage of 600,000 pieces, this coin was struck on a planchet of .999 fine gold.
Featuring Song Lina's Touching Baby Panda Design
The Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests returns as the obverse design. The Hall is located in Beijing's Temple of Heaven. A beautiful example of traditional Chinese architecture, the building is tiered and circular. Steps lead up to a platform on which the main structure sits. This image is encircled by a rim frame. On the frame are a pair of inscriptions, the name of the issuing country, "People's Republic of China," which is in Chinese characters at the top, and the date, "2020," which is on the bottom.
Northern China resident Song Lina, who has been studying pandas for years, created the 2020 reverse design. A baby panda is seated on the ground facing the holder. It is enjoying a meal of bamboo leaves, eating with one paw and grabbing more leaves from the tree above with another. The coin's face value is inscribed to the left, while its weight and purity, "15 G AU .999," are inscribed above the panda's head along the rim.
Impeccable MS70 FR with Panda Label
Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) certified that this piece lacks even a single imperfection that is visible under 5x magnification by awarding it their highest grade, Mint State 70. They also labeled the coin First Releases, which means that it was submitted to them for grading within 30 days of its initial release from the mint. Grading information comes provided on label that features the titular cuddly bear, the Panda bear.
