Why buy this 2020 ¥10 China 1 g Gold Panda?
The China Mint continues its rich tradition of Gold Panda coins with this 2020 edition. The series began in 1982 with four sizes struck. The following year, a fifth coin that would be the smallest of the set, 1/20 oz, was first issued. This 1 g piece is the successor to that 1/20 oz version, as the China Mint switched to the metric system in 2016. The series continues to enamor collectors young and old with its one year only designs. This coin is part of a mintage of a million pieces, the highest mintage of the five sizes of the 2020 release.
Featuring a Stunning Baby Panda Design by Song Lina
As is tradition, the Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests dominates the obverse. The Hall is situated in the Chinese capital as part of the Temple of Heaven. Stairs lead up to the circular building, which stands in three tiers. The edifice is encircled by a rim frame in which the name of the issuing country, "People's Republic of China," and the date, "2020," are inscribed.
The reverse features an adorable baby panda design by Song Lina. Song lives in northern China and has spent years studying the animals. The panda on this coin can be seen eating its favorite meal, bamboo leaves. It is feeding itself with one paw while grabbing more leaves from the tree above with another. Inscriptions on this face include the coin's face value and its weight and purity, "1 G AU .999."
Flawless MS70 FR with Panda Label
This coin earned Numisimatic Guaranty Corporation's (NGC's) highest grade, Mint State 70. Only coins that appear perfect under 5x magnification receive that grade. The piece was also certified First Releases, a designation that is given to coins that were submitted for grading no more than 30 days after their initial mint release. NGC provided this grading information on an appropriately themed Panda label.
