Powerful Poppies Design by Trevor Tennant
Obverse: The obverse bears a right-side portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt. Blunt shows her wearing earrings and a necklace while striking a note of Canadian independence by showing the monarch with neither a crown nor a tiara. Her name and title, "ELIZABETH II D G REGINA," are inscribed along the rim.
Reverse: On the reverse, a "V" represents victory amid a field of colorized poppies in a design that was created by Trevor Tennant. The red poppies represent the sacrifices men made to bring about peace. Rim inscriptions include the name of the issuing country, "CANADA," the coin's face value, "5 DOLLARS," and the date, "2020."
