Why purchase this 1/4 oz Silver Specimen 2020 $5 Canada Hudson's Bay Company - 350th Anniversary?
Canada's Hudson's Bay Company has played a fascinating and integral role in the nation's history. Founded in 1670, the company grew to prominence through the fur trade, though it has since expanded into several other ventures. Not only did the company grow itself, though, but it also grew its nation. Its trading posts would become Canadian cities and were essential in building the modern nation. The Royal Canadian Mint pays homage to the company on its 350th anniversary with this stunning silver piece. Struck from 1/4 oz of .9999 fine silver, this coin is prat of a mintage of 100,000 pieces. This coin remains in GEM Specimen condition and will arrive in its original packaging from the mint.
Stunning Voyageurs Design by Trevor Tennant
The obverse bears a right-side portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt. The monarch wears earrings and a necklace. Unlike depictions of her on the coinage of other nations, Blunt's design shows her with neither a crown nor a tiara. The monarch's name, "ELIZABETH II," is inscribed to the left, while "D.G. REGINA" (By the Grace of God, Queen) is inscribed to the right.
Trevor Tennant based his reverse design on the famous Voyageur Dollar of Emanuel Hahn. Six explorers paddle away from a trading post, which stands in the background. The rough waters indicate just how much of a challenge they faced. Arching over them is the name of the issuing nation, "CANADA." Below are inscriptions of the coin's face value, "5 DOLLARS," and its date, "2020."
