Why purchase this 2020 $5 Canada 1 oz Silver Maple Leaf?
Share in the rich tradition of the Silver Maple Leaf with this 2020 edition. The series dates back to 1988, when it first brought collectors the iconic symbol of Canada to collectors. The series also set the bar for purity, as each piece is struck from .9999 fine silver. The coin is among the most difficult in the world to counterfeit thanks to the radial lines, which appear on both faces, and the micro-engraved date, "20," in the maple leaf privy. Like its predecessors, this coin is a product of the Royal Canadian Mint.
Featuring the Iconic Maple Leaf Design of Walter Ott
On the obverse is Susanna Blunt's right-side portrait of Canadian head of state Queen Elizabeth II. Blunt shows the monarch with her shoulders open to the holder. The Queen wears earrings but no crown or tiara, which is unique among her many depictions on coins around the world. Her name, "ELIZABETH II," is inscribed along the rim at the top, while the coin's face value, "5 DOLLARS," and date, "2020," are inscribed on the bottom.
On the reverse is Canada's national symbol, a sugar maple leaf. While the design is simple in concept, it is executed in fine detail that brings the leaf to life on the surface of the coin. The holder gets as close to picking up a leaf during a walk on a brisk autumn day as he could without putting on a jacket. The name of the issuing nation, "CANADA," is inscribed above, while the coin's high standard of purity, "9999," is noted to the left and right of the image. An inscription in English and French notes the coin's weight below, "1 OZ FINE SILVER ARGENT PUR."
