Why buy this 1/4 oz Gold 2020 $10 Canada Maple Leaf?
The first Gold Maple Leafs were struck in 1979. In November 1982, the series expanded from just 1 oz coins to 1/4 oz and 1/10 oz issues as well. Additional sizes were subsequently added. This 1/4 oz piece is part of that rich tradition and gives collectors on budgets the chance to share in the series with one of the original fractional sizes. This piece was struck at the Royal Canadian Mint from .9999 fine gold. It has radial lines, a security feature that makes the series almost impossible to counterfeit. This piece comes in its original mint sealed plastic square from the mint and remains in GEM Brilliant Uncirculated condition.
Featuring an Exquisite Maple Leaf Design
Susanna Blunt's portrait of Queen Elizabeth II returns yet again on the obverse, where it has appeared annually since 2005. Blunt's effigy strikes a note of independence as she shows the monarch with neither a crown nor a tiara. That distinguishes this design among depictions of the monarch that appear on world coinage. The monarch does, however, wear earrings and a necklace. "ELIZABETH II" arches over the image, while inscriptions on the bottom portion of the rim note the coin's face value, "10 DOLLARS," and date, "2020."
Canada's national symbol, a sugar maple leaf, features at the center of the reverse. The design is executed in fine detail that makes it come to life as collectors move the piece in light. The purity of the coin, "9999," is inscribed to the left and right of the leaf, while the name of the issuing country, "CANADA," is noted above. Throughout the bottom half of the rim spreads an inscription in English and French that notes the coin's weight, "FINE GOLD 1/4 OZ OR PUR."
