Why buy this Triangular 1 oz Gold 2020 $100 Australia Gilt Dragon Shipwreck Series Vergulde Draeck?

This triangular Gold Vergulde Draeck is the second coin in Australia's Shipwreck Series. The series commemorates some of history's most famous and mysterious shipwrecks. The Vergulde Draeck was built by the Dutch East India Company in 1653. Three years later, while carrying silver and trade goods worth more than 180,000 guilders, it wrecked on a submerged reef off the coast of Western Australia. Just 75 of the crew of 193 made it to shore. Nine days later, seven of the 75 continued on to Batavia (Jakarta), Indonesia in search of help. While those seven men reached their destination, those they left behind were never found. This coin remains in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. Part of a limited mintage of just 250 pieces, it was struck from 1 oz of .9999 fine gold.

Exquisite Vergulde Draeck Designs

A right-side portrait of Queen Elizabeth II is at the top of the obverse. The monarch wears her Royal Diamond Diadem and is joined by inscriptions of her name, "ELIZABETH II," the name of the issuing country, "AUSTRALIA,' and the date, "2020." Below, survivors on the schuyt, the ships boat, pull another sailor out of the water in the foreground as the ship sinks in the distance. At the bottom are some of the items that were lost in the wreck, as well as an inscription of the coin's face value, "ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS."

Decorative maritime ornaments encircle the proud ship as it once was on the reverse. Wind fills its sails as it cruises along the high seas. The reverse inscriptions are flipped relative to the design. They note the weight and purity of the coin, "1 OZ .9999 AU," the name of the ship, "VERGULDE DRAECK," and the year of the wreck, "1656."

Don't miss your chance to own this Shipwreck Series 2020 $100 Australia Triangular 1 oz Gold Gilt Dragon Vergulde Draeck.
