Why order this $5 Australia 2020 1 oz Silver Lunar Year of the Rat Domed Proof?
Lunar series have proven extremely popular in recent years, and the Royal Australian Mint is making a strong contribution to this theme. This Year of the Rat Domed Silver Proof celebrates a creature that is rarely celebrated, especially in the West. Those born in the Year of the Rat are said to be witty, alert, and vibrant. Struck from 1 oz of .999 fine silver, this coin is part of a mintage of just 7,500 pieces. It comes in its original mint packaging, which includes a display case.
Stunning Rat Design
The coin's obverse features a right-side profile of Queen Elizabeth II. Designed by Jody Clark, it shows the monarch wearing earrings and a necklace with her shoulders open to the holder. She also dons her Royal Diamond Diadem, which is most frequently seen publicly when she wears it to Great Britain's State Opening of Parliament. Her effigy is encircled by four inscriptions, including her name, "ELIZABETH II," and the coin's country, "AUSTRARLIA," the date, "2020," and the face value, "5 DOLLARS." Beyond these inscriptions are images of each of the animals in the Chinese zodiac.
On the reverse is a rat that is surrounded by Auspicious lychee. Inscriptions in the lower right include the Chinese character for "rat" and "YEAR OF THE RAT." Also included are the coin's weight and face value, "1 OZ .999 AG."
