The Royal Mint honors this lunar calendar series with this Silver Year of the Rat. The mint has already taken collectors through two cycles of the Chinese zodiac, providing collectors with a remarkable variety over a relatively short period of time. Each stunning new design regales collectors with Eastern culture. Part of a mintage of 50,000 pieces, this coin was struck from 1 oz of .999 fine silver.
Stunning Queen Elizabeth Effigy
Queen Elizabeth II features on the obverse. The Jody Clark design shows the monarch in right-side profile. Her Royal Diamond Diadem sits on her head, and she also wears earrings and a necklace. Her name, "ELIZABETH II," joins the name of the issuing country, "AUSTRALIA," on the top half of the rim. Inscriptions on the bottom half of the rim note the coin's weight and purity, "1 OZ 999 AG," as well as its face value, "1 DOLLAR."A circle of zodiac animals representing the lunar calendar surround the effigy.
The reverse design features a lively mouse foraging atop a tasty looking Lychee plant.
