Classic Silver Eagle Design
The obverse features the Walking Liberty design by Adolph A. Weinman. This is widely thought to be the most beautiful image ever struck in silver by the U.S. Mint. It was taken from the 1916-1947 circulating half dollar series. Liberty is shown walking over America’s rocky terrain. She carries with her symbols of strength and prosperity in the form of oak and laurel branches. She is swaddled in the Stars and Stripes as she is bathed in the morning sun.
The reverse of the issue has an original design from the legendary John M. Mercanti. Mr. Mercanti is a giant in the field of numismatic design, having created over 100 images struck by the U.S. Mint alone. A Heraldic Eagle is shown depicted on this classic design. He is shown with a shield over his breast while he clutches arrows and an olive branch in his formidable claws.
