Obverse: John Flanagan's left-side portrait of President George Washington features on the obverse, as it has with all other American quarters since 1932. "LIBERTY" is inscribed to the left of the design, while the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST," is included on the right. Rim inscriptions provide the name of the issuing country, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," and the coin's face value, "QUARTER DOLLAR."

Reverse: On the reverse, a Regal Fritillary butterfly flutters near the tops of Big Bluestem and Indian grasses. The image was designed by Emily Damstra and sculpted by Renata Gordon. Inscribed along the rim are the name of the park, "TALLGRASS PRAIRIE," the name of the state in which the park is located, "KANSAS," the date, "2020," and a statutory motto, "E PLURIBUS UNUM."
