Why does this 2020 bullion release of the U.S. Mint's 1 oz. Gold American Buffalo series belong in your collection?
The U.S. Mint's American Buffalo series celebrates its 15th year of issue in 2020! Design of the Gold Buffalo series is a tribute to American sculptor James Earle Fraser's design for the Type I Buffalo Nickel issued in 1913. This 2020 Gold Buffalo bullion coin is struck from 1 Troy oz. of .9999 fine gold. Sourced from an Authorized Mint Purchaser (AP), the coin was safely housed in a MintID secure certificate card and assigned an AES-128-bit encrypted NFC microchip. The microchip can be scanned by a MintID iOS or Android mobile application, allowing authenticity of the coin can be confirmed.
Iconic Gold Buffalo Imagery
The reverse depicts Black Diamond, an American buffalo that lived in New York's Central Park Zoo in the early 1900s, standing upon a dirt mound inscribed with "1 OZ. .9999 FINE GOLD" and "$50." Additional inscriptions include "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and the national motto "IN GOD WE TRUST."
The obverse features a right facing portrait of a Native American chief, surrounded by a hammered textured background. Inscribed "LIBERTY" and "2020."
