Why add this $50 American 2020 1 oz Gold Eagle to your collection?
The American Gold Eagle quickly emerged as a collector favorite when it emerged on the global numismatic scene in 1986. Collectors were enthusiastic about its stunning, historic design and its U.S government backing for weight and purity. The coin is struck in four sizes, of which this 1 oz piece is the largest. It was struck from .9167 fine gold at the West Point Mint.
Patriotic Saint-Gaudens Design by Augustus Saint-Gaudens
The coin's obverse design comes from the double eagle of Augustus Saint-Gaudens and takes its name from him. It appeared on that coin from 1907-1933. At the center is Liberty, who stands facing the holder with her long hair blowing in the wind. She strikes a confident post with one foot elevated upon a rock. In her hands, she holds a symbol of freedom, her torch, and a symbol of peace, an olive branch. She appears larger than life thanks to the rays of the morning sun that spread out behind her. Off to the side is a small rendering of the Capitol Dome. The image is encircled by fifty stars, symbols of the current states. The number is an adaptation from the original design, which had just 46. Inscriptions on this face read, "LIBERTY" and "2020."
Miley Busiek designed the reverse, which features a family of eagles. A male eagle returns to his nest with an olive branch. His mate nestles their young as she watches his return. Two mottoes, "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "IN GOD WE TRUST," are split to the left and right, respectively. "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" is inscribed along the top portion of the rim, while "1 OZ. FINE GOLD" and "50 DOLLARS" are inscribed on the bottom half of it.
Impeccable MS70 FS with Flag Label
