Why order this 2020 $50 American 1 oz Gold Eagle?
Since its debut in 1986, the American Gold Eagle Series has been a collector favorite. Struck in 1 oz., 1/2 oz., 1/4 oz., and 1/10 oz., the coin combines the quality of the US Mint with US government backing for weight and purity and one of the most beautiful designs in numismatic history. This piece was struck from 1 troy ounce of .9167 fine gold at the West Point Mint.
Featuring Augustus Saint-Gaudens's Famous Liberty Design
The coin takes its obverse design from the famous double eagle of Augustus Saint-Gaudens. Liberty stands at the center against a backdrop of the rays of the morning sun, which spread out behind her. She stands with one foot set upon a rock and a strong wind blowing her long hair. She holds her torch in front of her, a beacon of freedom that is recognized throughout the world. In her other hand she holds an olive branch, a symbol of peace. The US government is represented by a miniature rendering of the Capitol Dome, which is set off to the left. Fifty stars along the rim represent the states. Forty-six appeared on the original design, with four since added to account for the country's newest states. Inscriptions on this face include "LIBERTY" and "2020."
A family of eagles constitutes Miley Busiek's reverse design. A male eagle prepares to land in his nest with an olive branch in tow as his mate watches his return while tending to their young. Between the male and the nest are a pair of statutory inscriptions, "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "IN GOD WE TRUST." "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" arches over the image, while inscriptions on the rim below it read, "1 OZ. FINE GOLD" and "50 DOLLARS."
