Why purchase this 2020 $1 American 1 oz Silver Eagle for your collection?
The American Silver Eagle reigns supreme as the world's most collected bullion coin. Its popularity stems from its U.S government backing for weight and purity and its bringing together one past and one present numismatic legend. Silver Eagles have been so popular in recent years that the US Mint has been striking them at multiple facilities, thus giving collectors some variety in an otherwise very consistent series. Like all other Silver Eagles, this piece was struck from 1 oz of .999 fine silver.
Featuring the Classic Walking Liberty Design of Adolph Weinman
The obverse design originally appeared on the half dollar that bears its name. Adolph Weinman's Walking Liberty design features an American flag draped Liberty striding toward the left side of the coin with a Phrygian cap on her head and laurel and oak branches in her left hand. The cap traditionally indicates that its wearer is a freed slave. The oak branches are traditional symbols of honors bestowed upon members of the military, while laurel branches represent those bestowed upon civilians. Liberty extends her right hand forward above the morning sun, as if greeting the new day. Her name arches over the image, while the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST," and the date, "2020," are inscribed elsewhere on this face.
The reverse bears an adaptation of the Great Seal of the United States by John Mercanti. At the top are thirteen stars, symbols of the original states, arranged in a triangular formation. Below, an eagle protects a union shield. The bird holds a ribbon with the phrase "E PLURIBUS UNUM" in its beak and arrows and an olive branch in its talons. The former symbolize America's willingness to defend her values, while the latter indicates a desire for peace. This image is encircled by three rim inscriptions, which read, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," and "ONE DOLLAR."
