Why order this 2020 1 oz Silver $1 American Eagle?
First issued in 1986, the American Silver Eagle got a later start than some of the other leading modern bullion coins, but it has emerged as one of the world's favorite annual issues. This is largely the result of its backing for weight and purity by the United States government, but also its stunning designs, one of which was created by a historic numismatic legend and the other of which was created by a living legend. Thanks to high demand, the coin has been struck at multiple facilities in recent years. Like the ASEs from at other facilities, it was struck on a 1 oz planchet of .999 fine silver.
Stunning Walking Liberty Design by Adolph Weinman
Adolph Weinman created the Walking Liberty design for the half dollar, on which it appeared from 1916-1947. The design made a comeback in 1986 with the debut of the Silver Eagle, on which it has appeared ever since. Liberty is the image of patriotism. Draped in the American flag, she dons a Phrygian cap, which indicates that she is a freed slave. She strides to the left side of the coin with laurel and oak branches, traditional symbols of civilian and military honors, in her left hand. She extends her right hand forward above the rising sun, as if presenting the new day to the holder. Her name, "LIBERTY," arches over the image, while the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST," is inscribed to the right and the date, "2020," is inscribed at the bottom.
On the reverse is a design by John Mercanti, which he modeled off of the Great Seal of the United States. At the center is a union shield, which is guarded by an eagle. The bird holds a ribbon with the words "E PLURIBUS UNUM" in its beak. In its talons, it clutches arrows, reminders of America's willingness to defend her values, and an olive branch, a symbol of peace. Above its head are thirteen stars , which represent the original state. Rim inscriptions offer the coin's country, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," weight, "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," and face value, "ONE DOLLAR."
