Why purchase this 1 oz Silver 2020 $1 American Eagle?
Since its debut in 1986, the American Silver Eagle has maintained a remarkably steady record as the world's favorite bullion coin. The US government backs Silver Eagles for weight and purity, and this combined with the series's stunning designs has driven demand into the tens of millions year in and year out. So high has demand become that the US Mint strikes these coins at multiple mints. This one was struck in Philadelphia from 1 oz of .999 fine silver.
Featuring the Exquisite Walking Liberty Design of Adolph Weinman
The obverse bears the Walking Liberty design of Adolph Weinman, which became famous during the three-plus decades that it appeared on America's half dollars. Liberty is the image of patriotism, draped in the American flag and with a Phrygian cap on her head. The cap is traditionally worn by freed slaves. She carries laurel and oak branches, which traditionally represent civilian and military honors, while extending her right hand in front of her above the rising sun. Her name, "LIBERTY," is inscribed along the rim at the top, while the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST," and the date, "2020," also appear on this face.
The Great Seal of the United States served as the model for John Mercanti's reverse design. An eagle protects a union shield while holding arrows and an olive branch in its talons. The former serve as a reminder to all that America is prepared to defend her values, while the latter expresses a desire for peace. The bird also holds a ribbon with the inscription "E PLURIBUS UNUM" in its beak. At the top of the design are thirteen stars, symbols of the original states. Three rim inscriptions, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," and "ONE DOLLAR," combine to encircle the image.
