Why purchase this 2020 $1 American 1 oz Silver Eagle?Collectors around the world flock to the American Silver Eagle year after year thanks to its stunning designs and United States government backing for weight and purity. The series continues to enamor collectors three and a half decades after it began in 1986. So high has demand been in recent years that the US Mint has been striking coins at multiple facilities. This one was struck at the Philadelphia Mint. Like all Silver Eagles, it was struck from 1 oz of .999 fine silver. Featuring the Historic Walking Liberty Design of Adolph WeinmanAdolph Weinman's Walking LIberty design, which was struck on America's half dollars from 1916-1947, returned for the Silver Eagle Series in 1986. Liberty strides confidently toward the left side of the coin extending her right hand above the rising sun and bearing laurel and oak branches in her left hand. The branches are traditional symbols of honors bestowed upon civilians and members of the military, respectively. The figure dons a Phrygian cap and is draped in the American flag. Her name, "LIBERTY," arches over the image, while the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST," is inscribed to the right. The coin's date, "2020," is at the bottom. John Mercanti modeled his reverse design on the Great Seal of the United States. At the center is a union shield, which is guarded by a heraldic eagle. The bird holds a ribbon in its beak and arrows and an olive branch in its talons. The ribbon bears the inscription "E PLURIBUS UNUM." The arrows represent America's willingness to stand up for her values, while the olive branch indicates a preference for peace. Above are thirteen stars, which represent the original states. Three sets of inscriptions, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," " 1 OZ. FINE SILVER," and "ONE DOLLAR," spread throughout the rim.
