Why purchase this 1 oz Silver 2020 $1 American Eagle?
The American Silver Eagle continues to retain its status as the world's favorite bullion coin now three and a half decades into the series. Each coin is struck from 1 oz of .999 fine silver. To meet demand in recent years, the US Mint has begun striking the coin at multiple mints. This one was struck in Philadelphia.
Featuring the Iconic Walking Liberty Design of Adolph Weinman
Adolph Weinman's Walking Liberty design, which appeared on the half dollar from 1916-1947, features on the obverse. It was revived for the beginning of this series in 1986 and has been there ever since. An American flag-draped Liberty wears a Phrygian cap, which traditional indicates that someone is a freed slave. She carries laurel and oak branches, which are traditional symbols of civilian and military honors, in her left hand. She extends her right hand in front of her toward the left side of the coin, where the morning sun is just beginning to rise. The design is joined by the inscriptions "LIBERTY," "IN GOD WE TRUST," and "2020."
Thirteen stars represent the original states at the top of John Mercanti's reverse design, which is based on the Great Seal of the United States. Below, an eagle clutches arrows and an olive branch while guarding a union shield. The arrows serve as a reminder the America is willing to defend her values when necessary, while the olive branch expresses a preference for peace. The bird also holds a ribbon in its beak. The inscription "E PLURIBUS UNUM" is on the ribbon. Along the rim are three additional inscriptions, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," and "ONE DOLLAR."
