Featuring Adolph Weinman's Famous Walking Liberty DesignOn the obverse is a classic American design, Adolph Weinman's Walking Liberty. The image first appeared on the half dollar in 1916 and remained there until 1947. It then returned for the Silver Eagle Series. Liberty features as a patriotic figure, draped in the American flag. On her head is a Phrygian cap, which means that she is a freed slave. She extends her right hand in front of her above the rising sun, as though greeting the new day. In her left hand she carries laurel and oak branches, which are traditional symbols of civilian and military honors, respectively. Inscriptions on this face include the figure's name, "LIBERTY," the date, "2020," and the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST." The reverse design is an adaptation of the Great Seal of the United States by John Mercanti. Thirteen stars represent the original states at the top of the design. Below, a union shield is guarded by an eagle. In the eagle's beak is a ribbon that bears the phrase "E PLURIBUS UNUM" (From many, one). The bird also clutches arrows and an olive branch in its talons. The former represent the nation's willingness to defend her values, while the latter indicates a desire for peace. This image is encircled by three rim inscriptions, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," and "ONE DOLLAR."
