Why purchase this $1 American 2020 1 oz Silver Eagle?
The American Silver Eagle has been a favorite option for modern bullion collectors for decades. Since 1986, it has combined beautiful designs with US government backing for weight and purity. 2020 marks the final year in which the original reverse design will appear on the bullion version of the coin, though it will remain on the Proof version. Like its predecessors, this coin was struck on a 1 oz planchet of .999 fine silver.
Exquisite Walking Liberty Design by Adolph Weinman
The coin's obverse design was created by Adolph Weinmnan. It originally appeared on the half dollar from 1916-1947 before returning for this series. Liberty appears the picture of patriotism with an American flag draped over her. She dons a Phrygian cap, which identifies her as a freed slave, as she strides confidently to the left side of this face. In her left arm she bears laurel branches, which represent civilian honors, and oak branches, which represent military honors. She extends her right hand forward, as though greeting the morning sun, which rises below. The figure's name, "LIBERTY," arches over the image. Other obverse inscriptions read, "IN GOD WE TRUST" and "2020."
The reverse design was specifically created for this series by John Mercanti. An eagle holds arrows and an olive branch while protecting a union shield. The arrows serve as reminders to all of America's willingness to defend her values, while the olive branch indicates a desire for peace. The bird also holds a ribbon in its beak. On the ribbon is the inscription "E PLURIBUS UNUM." Thirteen stars above represent the original states. The image is encircled by three rim inscriptions, which read, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," and "ONE DOLLAR."
