Why purchase this 2020 $1 American 1 oz Silver Eagle?
The American Silver Eagle is both America's and the world's most famous silver bullion coin. Each piece has the backing of the US government for weight and purity. The coin bears one relatively recent design and one classic one, combining numismatic history with the design of a living numismatic legend. This coin was struck from 1 oz of .999 fine silver at the Philadelphia Mint.
Featuring the Traditional Walking Liberty Design of Adolph Weinman
Adolph Weinman first created his Walking Liberty design for the half dollar, where it appeared from 1916-1947. The design was revived for the Silver Eagle Series in 1986 and remains there today. Liberty carries laurel and oak branches, traditional symbols of civilian and military honors, respectively, as she strides toward the left side of the coin. She extends her right hand forward above the morning sun, as if greeting the new day. Liberty wears a Phrygian cap, which indicates that she is a freed slave, and she is draped in the American flag. Her name, "LIBERTY," arches over the image. Other inscriptions on this face include the date, "2020," and the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST."
The reverse bears an adaptation of the Great Seal of the United States by John Mercanti. An eagle guards a union shield while clutching arrows and an olive branch. The former remind all that America will defend her values when necessary, while the latter express a desire for peace. In the bird's beak is a ribbon that bears the phrase "E PLURIBUS UNUM" (From many, one). At the top of the design are thirteen stars, one for each of the original states. Rim inscriptions encircle the image, reading, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," and "ONE DOLLAR."
