Why order this $1 American 2020 1 oz Silver Eagle?
For decades, the American Silver Eagle has been the favorite bullion coin for collectors around the world. The series offers a combination of the work of two numismatic legends and enjoys the backing of the US government for weight and purity. These factors have driven demand so high that the mint began striking the coins at several facilities in recent years, thus offering some variety in a series that otherwise has relatively little. This piece was struck from 1 oz of .999 fine silver at the Philadelphia Mint.
Featuring the Classic Walking Liberty Design of Adolph Weinman
Adolph Weinman created his Walking Liberty design for the half dollar, on which it appeared from 1916-1947. So popular was the image that it was revived when the US began striking Silver American Eagles in 1986. The image features Liberty in the foreground striding toward the left side of the coin. She is the picture of patriotism with the American flag draped over her and a Phrygian cap, which identifies her as a freed slave, on her head. She carries with her laurel and oak branches, which are traditional symbols of honors bestowed upon civilians and members of the military, respectively. In the distance, the morning sun begins to emerge from beyond the horizon. "LIBERTY" arches over the image, while other obverse inscriptions read, "IN GOD WE TRUST" and "2020."
The Great Seal of the United States served as the model for John Mercanti's reverse design. Thirteen stars, symbols of the original states, are arranged in a triangular shape above the head of an eagle, which protects a union shield. The bird clutches arrows and an olive branch, symbols of military readiness and peace, in its talons while also holding a ribbon in its beak. The ribbon bears the phrase "E PLURIBUS UNUM" (From many, one). This image is encircled by three rim inscriptions, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," and "ONE DOLLAR."
