Why purchase this 2020 1 oz Silver $1 American Eagle?
The American Silver Eagle has come to dominate the world of precious metals coins since its inception in 1986. The coin is known both for its beauty and its security. Its beauty stems from its combination of a classic and a modern design, while the security originates with its backing by the US government for weight and purity. In recent years, bullion Silver Eagles have been struck at multiple mints, offering variety to an otherwise rather consistent series. This piece was struck from 1 oz of .999 fine silver at the Philadelphia Mint.
Featuring the Classic Walking Liberty Design of Adolph Weinman
From 1916-1947, Adolph Weinman's Walking Liberty design graced America's half dollars. The highly acclaimed design came back with the inaugural Silver Eagle in 1986 and has remained a fixture of the series since. Liberty wears a Phrygian cap and is draped in the American flag. The cap is traditionally worn to indicate that someone is a freed slave. Liberty strides toward the left side of the coin bearing laurel branches, which represent civilian honors, and oak branches, which represent military ones, in her left hand. She extends her right hand in front of her above the rising sun, as if she is presenting the new day to the holder. Her name, "LIBERTY," arches over the image, while "IN GOD WE TRUST" and "2020" are also inscribed on this face.
John Mercanti's reverse design is an adaptation of the Great Seal of the United States. An eagle holds arrows and an olive branch under an arrangement of thirteen stars, symbols of the original states. The branches indicate that America stands ready to defend her values, while the olive branch indicates that the nation prefers peace. The bird also holds a ribbon with the words "E PLURIBUS UNUM" in its beak. Rim inscriptions encircling the image read, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," and "ONE DOLLAR."
Flawless MS70 ER with Black Core Holder
